Welcome to Cherokee County’s Virtual Visitor Center

Escape to the lake and return to the simple life for a while!

Blessed by the unique geography of northeast Alabama, Cherokee County is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise four seasons of the year, with breathtaking scenery and natural wonders to explore.  Enjoy Lookout Mountain of the Appalachian Mountains region.

You won’t find places like Cherokee County on just any map.  With easy access to and from the Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Huntsville areas, you can arrive comfortable from major interstates.

Fishing & Fun on Weiss Lake

Weiss Lake is the place to be on a warm summer day. Whatever your pleasure – fishing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, camping, picnicking, sailing, swimming, or just watching the water slowly lap the shoreline – you’ll find it at Weiss Lake. The lake is best known for its excellent crappie fishing, and the secret is out that we have great year-round bass fishing, too. Winter brings a gentle atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sunsets over the water.

Lots to Do on Land

While Weiss Lake may be the centerpiece of Cherokee County, many other recreational activities abound. Blow your own glass ornament, paddle the Terrapin, play a round of golf, hike the trails, and explore the natural adventures at Cherokee Rock Village, Little River National Preserve, Canyon Mouth Park Recreation Area, and The Pinhoti Trail. Visit historic Civil War sites, Cornwall Furnace, and others.
